How to Prepare for your Engagement Session!

Updated: May 30, 2020

Congratulations on your engagement!

You may have some pre-photoshoot jitters concerning what to expect. If preparation helps to bring you peace, here are some ways to prepare.

1. Keep your eye on the big picture. Enjoy being engaged!

Take a deep breath and think about the big picture. You're engaged to be married to the person who makes your heart swell with happiness! That's all that matters and that's what I'm here to capture.

2. How to pose:

Don't! If you are trying really hard to make yourself look a certain way, it'll look like you're not having a good time. Let yourself be happily in love and your body language will naturally show that. I'll be watching out for your best angels and will make minor adjustments. I will show you the photos in camera as we go. That'll give us an opportunity to talk about how you like to see yourself and how we can adjust.

I would recommend thinking about how you like to be touched by your partner. Do you like neck kisses, being spun around, cuddling? Start thinking about how you like to be touched and ask your partner to do that during the photoshoot. From a photographer perspective, this helps immensely! Movement also looks AMAZING on camera so keep in mind I may ask you to twirl, run, swing around, and more. Feel free to come up with ideas that create movement.

3. What props to bring

Your pretty self and your fiancé! If you would like to bring props, I would a picnic blanket and a few fun activities to do together based on what you like to do during this chapter of your life.

4. Make your nails pretty.

If you have an engagement ring, I'll most likely get a close up of your hands. If you'd like to avoid closeups of your hands, we can do that!

5. What to wear:

Wear whatever makes you feel comfortable and beautiful! Think about your location/theme and let that inspire you. Avoid neon (as neon reflects onto faces) and too many thin stripes (as this distorts on camera). Here are more tips on what to wear.

6. Have fun!

To have a successful engagement session, this is all you really need to do!

Enjoy every moment of your engagement. I'm excited to create your photos with you!
